About performance: SAGA OF SAPIENS depicts the journey of humans from the beginning of time, when we lived in harmony with nature, to the chaotic present where we live amid pollution, disease and crime. Greed and consumerism rule the world today and the effects are out for all of us to see: after the World Wars, if there’s any event that has shaken the world to its core, it has been the pandemic. While fear, helplessness and loss may have touched all our lives, maybe it would help to view the current pandemic as a necessary evil that has forced us to press pause on the rat race. Maybe it is time to reflect on our actions, rethink our priorities, and recreate a better world.

Sonia Soney

Sonia Soney is a professionally trained contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher. A  master diploma holder in Movement Arts from the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, Sonia believes in the transformative power of the arts and aims to empower the community through holistic movement arts and dance practices.

About performance:  PURPOSE - 3.o is a solo show born out of Sonia’s research on cultural differences that seemingly separates us and the underlying universal connection that all beings share. The choreographer has developed a movement vocabulary with respect to women’s bodies for this piece – it is dynamic and attempts to communicate how decisions continue to be influenced by a woman’s body including perceptions of what is ugly or beautiful. In most gender-reflective performances, a lot tends to get lost while communicating to the opposite gender. Sonia hopes to break these barriers through this quietly political piece. PURPOSE 3.0 was funded by the Goethe Institut Bangalore-Max Mueller Bhavan as part of their BangaloREsidency programme.
