About performance:  13:61^STILL

13:61^Still began as a conversation between two of the collaborators about how dreams were affecting their sleeping patterns. The conversation led to the group digging deep into the topics of Dream and Sleep. Their research into scientific studies and documentaries on the subjects threw up a lot of findings. The trio also conducted a small survey on individual dream experiences to understand how, on a collective scale, almost all of us humans tend to have similar dreams in our sleep. In this work-in-progress piece, the performers aim to deliver the experience of the three states of the mind - conscious, subconscious and unconscious, and how the connection between our visual memory and subconscious memory plays a role in our dreams.

Anuradha Venkatraman

Grade A artist of Delhi Doordarshan and an empanelled artist of ICCR. Trained in Bharatanatyam under Padmabhushan Dr Saroja Vaidyanathan, Anuradha has been dancing professionally for the past two decades. She has performed in prestigious festivals such as the Khajuraho Samaroh, HCL Concert series, Mahabalipuram festival, Sangeet Natak Akademi's Nritya Pratibha and Sahitya Kala Parishad's Sopan. She runs the Swastika school of Dance and Music under her organization AHUM.

About performance:  The Other Woman, based on a story of the same name by Aditi Gopinath, is a Bharatanatyam solo that digresses from the stereotypical presentation of the nayika who is sad, jealous or angry towards the other woman in her husband’s life. Here, Anuradha upends the tale by having her Nayika fall in love with the other woman. The piece explores the sea of emotions the relationship draws out of her using a raga exploration by Hindustani singer DR Tejaswini. This dance piece is also about Anuradha testing the extent of discomfort, if any, that lies for a performer with a defined sexual orientation to portray a character with a more fluid orientation.
